Bitwig is so desperate for users they have to have multiple sales a year that last for months such as the one right now. So DM me when Bitwig becomes the preferred DAW of the top beatport producers because as it stands right now outside of this subreddit, no one talks about Bitwig. It's actually quite inferior in so many small ways, but small ways add up. Sorry to burst your bubble and you can go jerk off and cry about it, but there is nothing about Bitwig in terms of making music that is better than Ableton. If Charlotte De Witte came on this subreddit and was like "omg I switched to Bitwig, production has never been better!" That an something, but she doesn't because like all great producers and DJs, she uses Ableton. No one on this subreddit is anyone of worth, is all jerking off to Bitwig means nothing. And that's why producers use Ableton and will never switch to Bitwig. It's the difference in seconds and seconds matter. That's a simple thing that Bitwig doesn't do. If I want to extract a loop I don't even need to slice it, I just literally right click and choose that. I don't need to dig a little to route midi and USB like you do in Bitwig. I don't need to look up a script for the APC 40 to use it with Ableton. There are also many additional benefits to using able as well such as the sheer fact that because of it's universal acceptance, hardware, controllers etc. Also, organizing your own samples is so much easier and more organized in Ableton than Bitwig. The time you spend making a device, I've already made an entire life set in Ableton. "But just make your own in Bitwig." I've got a better idea, how about no. Also, the audio effects, utilities in Ableton are objectively better. In Ableton, it's so easily found because the DAW is organized. Finding the right audio device in Bitwig is annoying. One thing that I know impedes my workflow in Bitwig compared to Ableton is how absolute unorganized Bitwig is when it comes to finding devices and sounds. Spend the time, learn the damn thing properly, it’s ableton on steroids at a minimum, and is the most advanced and stable DAW on the market atm.ĭifferent impedes workflow. Also, what you can do with a decent sound library of your own in Bitwig is mind blowing and fun as all hell, creative in a way no other DAW can quite match for my money. But then you’ll just sound like everyone else. I don’t lean on presets much but if I did I could see why you’d prefer ableton. For me Bitwig is the most freeing and fun DAW I’ve ever used, and I’ve been at this since Notator on an Atari st in 1989.Ĭ) “the native sounds are pretty bad” so that hasn’t been my experience at all, and I’ve found also that Bitwig has so many more ways to get to the sound you want with just it’s stock plugs that I’ve retired a lot of VSTs as they’re no longer necessary. They’re all “clunky as fuck” at first, but when you become better they’re all instinctive and fast and all have different strengths. For the record I’m fluent in Logic, Ableton, and Bitwig, and have a passing familiarity with pro tools and studio one. Want Bitwig to copy pro tools grid commands? Set ‘em up however you want.ī) “it’s clunky as fuck” shows total ignorance about different DAWs, learning curves, and obviously you’re trying to force your ableton-centric work practices on a DAW that has its own way of doing things. So if you want the grid commands to copy ableton you can set them up that way, or any other way you want. If those are your legitimate gripes, it betrays just how green you are to the world of DAWs.Ī) Key commands are definable.
